Only 1 Non-Indo-European language made it to the World Cup 16

Japanese is the exception. And the Indo-European languages come from only three branches:

Romance: French (3), Italian, Portuguese (2), Spanish (5)

Germanic: Danish, Dutch, English, German, Swedish

Slavic: Russian, Croatian

N.B. Belgium and Switzerland account for more than one language (didn't include Rumansch in Switzerland or German in Belgium).
