Does anyone not follow an orthodox plan for learning languages?

I'm learning Russian on my own, and I have tried to create plans for myself or like a routine for my learning, but I can't seem to stick to it. It has nothing to do with the difficulty of the language or anything like that, but for some reason I can't stick to some routine. I feel as if doing the same thing doesn't give you an interactive aspect of the language, and using things like Anki and Quizlet, sure will give you exposure to the vocabulary, but where is the interaction part where you get to use the words?

Am I the only person who thinks this? For my language learning, I talk to people, that's it. I do have a textbook that I sometimes work through, but mainly I feel as if learning languages is the best by immersing yourself, not by learning grammar rules. Anybody else feel this way?

Let me know what you guys think. :)
