Definite Article with General Nouns

Sorry for the title but I don't know what the official term is for what I'm describing.

In German you would say "Die Natur ist schön" or in Spanish "La Naturaleza es hermosa" and in French "La nature est belle" but in English you don't say "The nature is beautiful" you drop the definite article and just say "Nature is beautiful".

Is there a term that describes this? Are there many languages that don't use an article in a situation like this, like English?

P.S. I'm not fluent in German, Spanish or French so if my translations are incorrect I apologize.
