I’m a librarian at a public library in the San Francisco Bay Area. Once a month, a patron asks me if I speak Spanish. My Spanish is ok and I’ve made attempts to learn in the past. Learning all of the different tenses and conjugations became challenging.
People have told me that I should know Spanish being in California. I use it infrequently and wonder if it is even worth learning more. Even most of the patrons asking me if I know Spanish know enough English to communicate with me.
Is there a reason I should learn more or should I not bother?
