When do most people quit a foreign language after deciding that they want to learn it?

If they're learning it on their own. If they were learning it in a classroom, when do people lose interest or motivation to learn the language? There's always a honeymoon phase when you first begin a language because its exciting to express yourself in a new way and after a while it goes away and the real grunt work begins. When does that happen?
