When to move from graded readers to novels?

I'm learning Chinese and I tried reading a novel but found it's extremely difficult and I have to search up every 3 words. I decided to put the novel on hold for now and use some graded readers. My question is when should I move on from graded readers to novels? I can already read fantasy and historical comics without needing to use a dictionary because dialogue is easy for me but the easiest of novels is a struggle
