Can I effectively improve my German language skills just by watching plenty of German TV shows and films?

My German is around B2 level, although I have not used it for a year now so my knowledge is becoming a bit rusty. I want to improve or at least maintain my German skills and the best I can do currently is to watch German movies and series. Is this a viable method?
